Somewhere I downloaded a couple of early versions of North to Alaska,
sung by Johnny Horton. There's a third verse in these versions. I
can't quite make out the lyrics. Can anyone help me out? Here is
what I have so far:

It was mighyt men like Sam McCord
Who.............a town like Nome
.........................fighting men
................home called their own
And stood up to a grizzly bear
And put him in his place
.......................Nome, Alaska
That..........................can.

Many thanks!

As far as I can make out, this is the last verse of the unreleased
versions of "Go North!" / "North to Alaska"

It took mighty men like Sam McCord
to tame a town like Nome
The Yukon breed of fighting men
had a code of their own
They'd stand up to a grizzly bear
and put him in his place
Was so tough in Nome Alaska
that canary bird sang bass

Absolutely -- that's what I've been trying to tell people in the
various groups and most of them don't seem to understand.

Many thanks for the words -- and your keen hearing!

I gotta say that those are *awfully* contrived lyrics -- geez!

No wonder this verse never made it to the big time....

No, I guess not... But it's always fun to hear these alternative lyrics.
