Ol' Hank wrote it and sang it real good, Jerry Lee Lewis did

Or as I say, It still comes down to the
SONG !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : )

Which again, is just another example of what a national treasure I've
become. : )

For years and years people used to parade those tired old cliches like
"you have to live the song before you can sing it, etc ... as if that
even mattered . Thanks to me and the billions of readers of this NG, I
think it's safe to say you will NEVER hear anyone utter that
ridiculous statement again.

Just more proof of the respect and admiration my opinions have earned
over the years, and naturally why I've been voted your KING . : )

LOL !!

And let's be honest and say right now that I NEVER exaggerate ! : )

Having said that, just to prove that "It Still Comes Down To The
Song", I would say that Hank Williams' catalog has to be the most
covered in history . Most artists have one or two songs that might be
considered "standards" , but it seems sometimes like Hank has
40 !!!!!!!

The Beatles have been covered more than any other band; "Yesterday"
has been covered over three thousand times since its original release
in 1965. George Gershwin's "Summertime" (from Porgy and Bess) has had
an estimated 2,500 versions recorded.

Leonard Cohen's songs have been famously covered by the great and the
good, each version a fascinating attempt to move closer to Cohen's
enigmatic muse. From Judy Collins' "Suzanne" to Jeff Buckley's seminal
rendition of "Hallelujah," Cohen's songs have traveled as far and wide
as their author. U2, REM, Sting, Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright and the
late Johnny Cash are among other famous devotees. It is estimated that
his songbook has been covered over 1,330 times by other recording
artists.

And yes, Hank's songs have been covered many, many times. Here's a
site that lists the songs, how many times they were covered and by
who. Very interesting.

EXACTLY !!!!! It's so incomplete, you have to wonder why anybody even
bothered putting it up on the site. It just illustrates what we see
every day in here, that there are very few people ANYWHERE, with much
knowledge about classic country music, and this site just magnifies
that. It was obviously compiled by someone who is NOT a fan of classic
country music, and it shows. Another old dot.com hippie trying to make
a buck .

Obviously, the key is it's like Wikipedia, and there's a place for
ANYONE to add or correct the list, so once it's up and running, they
can benefit from everyone ELSE'S expertise.

Sorry honey, show me the MONEY ! : )

Who cares ? Obviously whenever we're speaking in this NG,we're
speaking about COUNTRY music. Obviously, thanks to the baby boom,
people like Elvis and the Beates are institutions, and as these NGs
prove, classic country music has never been "popular" , compared ro
Rock/ Pop.
Leonard Cohen's songs have been famously covered by the great and the

Ya know, doesn't this say something about the American public ? The
Beatles are revered, and I guess rightfully so to an extent, BUT ...
if "Yesterday" is considered the zenith of their musical legacy, it
just proves what people like Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna,
Elton John, The New Kids On The Block, Milli Vanilli, Bruce
Springsteen and especially Paul McCartney have forced us to conclude
after 50 years of re-listening to it on Oldies radio.

Let's be honest. There's a REASON Rap music is so popular ! :)

The only reason that rap is so popular is that they must have discovered a
drug that we never heard of.<
I have to believe that MUSICALLY the world might be a better place if
any of the above had used drugs ! : ) Everyone from the Beatles to Ray
Charles and even Willie Nelson have admitted that a lot of their best,
most enduring music was created while under the influence.

Please don't go blaming the demise of popular music on rap fans drug
use. John Lennon had Paul McCartney pegged over 30 years ago, when he
dismissed him and his "Silly Love Songs" .

Unfortunately as we've lamented many times, the music market is driven
by women, and it's proven that by and large women don't understand
music.

Nice butt, cute, rebellious, etc ... but the music part of the formula
doesn't seem to exist. : )

All the guys from the 50's and 60's are still aound, nd then there's a
HUGE vacuum . Did the music die with Buddy Holly, as Don McLean said,
or more accurately when John Lennon died, as I tend to believe ?

That's why we're HERE ! : )
LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean honestly, shouldn't I apply for a government grant ? You gotta
admit what I'm doing is MORE than a public service !!!!!!!!!

Just like your health, when it comes to Country music, it's IMPERATIVE
that you get a second opinion. : )

Although Martina's version is naturally very good, she seems like
she's on pain killers and almost resigned to the fact that "You win
