FINALLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of THE ALL-TIME
GREATS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He belonged in there a
LLLOOOOONNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG time BEFORE a LOT of the people who got in
ahead of him ! A great day !
Vince Gill<
A GREAT guy, but Hall Of Fame ? I don't know, seems a little early to
me. Good guitarist and nice voice, but his songs lacked a little bit.
But if there's a category for goodwill ambassador/emcee/humorist/
singer/all-arond nice guy he gets my vote. :)
Ralph Emery<
Just what we need, another self-important wind bag . :) As these
boards prove, most disc jockeys have a ridiculously overvalued opinion
of their importance as it is, as is being proven in modern times every
day without them, :) without giving out any awards. I mean what
exactly did he ever do to deserve it ? If there's a disc jockey Hall
Of Fame or a Radio Personality Hall Of Fame good luck to him, but
let's leave the Country Music Hall Of Fame for people who deserve it.

That is exactly right - "self-important wind bag".

What an embarrassment for the HOF, and a slap in the face to more
deserving, much more deserving, individuals.

The football HOF has coaches in it. Baseball HOF has managers and other
non-players including, yes, announcers. I don't find anything insulting
about it. It's not a slap in the fact to players who didn't make it. Those
who make significant contributions to an industry should be considered,
including songwriters, producers and even DJs. Even if some do consider
them giant windbags.

The problem I have with Emery's induction is that he admitted in his
autobiography that he CHEATED. He claimed (in "Memories") that he lied
about the number of requests and plays songs by his then-wife Skeeter Davis
was receiving in order to improve her sales. If he did that for her, who
else did he over-report (or, if he didn't like someone, UNDER-report)?

EXACTLY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, in the final twist of irony, you're
going to REWARD dirtbags like Emery, when in FACT, some/many of the
very people he screwed , if they had a level playing field, may have
been more successful than some of the people already in, and possibly
would be getting elected on their own, in his place this year !

Power corrupts, and when they were the only game in town, NOBODY was
more corrupt than disc jockeys !

How fortunate for us that radio recognized the problem, consolidated
ownership of radio stations to a couple of corporations and created
formatted, homogenized playlists. Now, if you are really lucky, the DJ you
listen to on your "local" station may be located less than 1,000 miles away.

I hope you're kidding, but I know you're NOT ! Football is a sport,
NOT art and therefore they keep score and there's a winner and a
loser. The coach is responsible for everything from drafting the
players for the team, to deciding when to punt ! (And everything in
between)
Baseball HOF has managers<
See above. Are we going too fast for you again ? :) LOL !!!!!!!!
and other non-players including, yes, announcers. I don't find anything insulting
about it. It's not a slap in the face to players who didn't make it. <
You're a slap in the face to intelligent life on earth. Is it too
early to sign up for the next shuttle mission ? :)
Those who make significant contributions to an industry should be considered,
including songwriters, <
Absolutely. In fact, if it was up to me I might put the songwriters in
BEFORE the singers ! :)
producers<
Agreed again. Don Law and Frank Jones were musical geniuses, and had a
vision. Chet Atkins had cataracts. :) If you were lucky enough to
record for Law & Jones you're probably in the HOF, or on your way. If
you were unlucky enough to record for Chet Atkins, you're probably a
disc jockey ! :)
and even DJs. Even if some do consider them giant windbags.<
That's being polite. EVERYONE considers them windbags, and even MORE
people :) consider them despicable low-life criminals ! As Ms Raizor
alluded to, show me a successful disc jockey, and I'll show you a crime
that hasn't been uncovered yet !

It's the nature of the beast, as these boards prove daily ! :)

Not true at all. Ever hear of a General Manager? Director of Player
Personnel? They are key personnel in determining the draft. Usually much
more so than the head coach. And the Offensive Coordinator often decides
whether to punt or go for it on 4th down. Sports obviously ain't your
strong suit.

Not true. It's the coach's final decision in most cases, and
ultimately his "responsibility" which is what I said.
Post by ***@aol.com (Noah Tall)

Only if it doesn't matter, :) and who do you think hires the Offensive
Coordinator ?

Anyhow, it's irrelevant. The point is that the coach is responsible
for making decisions every second that contribute to the success of
the team, so he is a part of the individual team he's employed by, and
is judged accordingly. If the team wins, the coach rightfully gets
some credit. The disc jockey contributes nothing to the music, and is
just a pair of hands that's basically been replaced by chimpanzees !

I still think that having local radio "personalities" wasn't a bad thing.
In addition to just spinning some tunes, a good DJ could provide interesting
anecdotal information and make your local station more "hometown."

See Vince Gill in concert and you can't help but love the guy. He is funny
and does seem like the boy-next-door, all-around nice guy. I've got a bunch
of his albums and listen to him pretty regularly.

But how influential he has been to county music probably is debatable. Of
all the artists I've heard crediting those who have influenced their music,
I don't recall a one who ever mentioned Vince Gill. Nonetheless, he has
come through for us a couple of times when we needed a good
back-to-the-roots country album. Biggest problem I've got with Vince Gill
is that those dang tenors can make sing-a-longs pretty tough sometimes.
