You may as well do a Top Five Drops of Water in the Ocean list.

98-star performers cannot be contained by top 5 lists.

I agree with your premise, BUT ... this is Johnny Cash we're talking
about . Even Billboard will confirm he only had one # 1 hit in the
last 38 years, and that was a novelty tune ! : ) I guess it's safe to
say you're younger than 38, eh Bunky ? : ) LOL !!!!!!!!

Having said that, I agree with the premise that it's awfully difficult
to narrow down an artist of his stature to five songs, and I'm sure
I'll forget a lot , but five of my favorites off the top of my head
(although in NO WAY am I saying these are my 5 favorites)

1. Get Rhythm
2. Oney
3. W Lee O' Daniel And The Lightcrust Douighboys
4. The Night Hank Williams Came To Town
5. Boy Named Sue
6. I've Been Everywhre

(See, that's six already)

Honorable mention - Folsom Prison Blues (Live) - Merle Haggard : )

I got it "One Piece at a Time" from drunken Ira Hayes, the Rebel
Johnny Yuma, and A Boy Named Sue while the Man in Black was riding the
Ghost Riders in the Sky and the one on the Left was in the Middle of
the Wall which was Five Feet High and Rising. And that was before
Billy Joe took his guns to town ;-)P

Don't take yer guns to town, son
Leave yer guns at home, Bill
Don't take yer guns to town

My personal favorite is "There Ain't No Good Chain Gang."

Let's see now, my dog ain't in this hunt, but, you need to change
your handle and learn to be a nicer sob than you are, how 'bout it!

I'll go along with those sentiments, Blue..

but for crying out loud, when some 'obvious' troll posts a message like
that this, and several -OTHER- newsgroups at the same time, please do
NOT reply... as the reply will go to all of the other newsgroups, who
then will cross-post THEIR replies as well, and holy smoke, it's a never
ending, vicious cycle.

We'd be right back to having a 'Teed-juis' life, again.

A little 'tention is all that's required.

Sorry Bunky, since your soul's been dead for years you're not allowed
to comment on something you have no knowledge about. : )
Death to America<
Congratulations ! Now you've got it. Something at last you're
qualified to talk about. : )

Obviously the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree. Ms Linda must
be very proud. : )

Even though it's not one of his most prominent tracks, "A Satisfied Mind' is
pretty good.. really good message. RIP Johnny.. he was one of the few
artists really adept at telling a story with his songs.

He was an artist that crossed several musical genres.
He was Country, Rock, Folk, Pop and more.

"Sunday morning comin' down" can be no. 1, and 4 more off the
"Ride This Train" lp from 1960 will do, Johnny at his best.
