Hi.

I was just listening to this song and I'm not sure who the duet singer
is. I'm guessing it's Rita Remington, but the credits don't say
specifically and just list five female background vocalists and Karen
Brooks is of course one of them and definitely a possibility.

Anybody know for sure ?

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

If you mean, "We got a BAD thing going" the female singing with Coe is
Terry McMillan.

You're welcome in advance.

Are you sure ? There is no Terry McMillan listed in the credits, and
the only Terry McMillan I'm aware of is a male Harmonica player .

At any rate thanks for your reply.

You're right, I just glanced at the album notes on the "Whiskey River"
album and never associated the Terry McMillan as being the harmonica
player.

She did, but the evidence points to Rita Remington, which is why I
asked . Karen Brooks sang on duets with DAC, but in every instance I
believe it's listed on the back cover. On this particular LP, she's
listed as a background vocalist . However buth BOTH Johnny Lee (who
also does a duet) and Rita Remington are NOT listed as background
vocalists but are mentioned as "appearing through the courtesy of such
and such Records.

Seems to me they all recorded for Plantation, which would just add
weight to my Rita Remington probability.

I suppose I could go back and listen to them both and compare with the
Coe duet, but I was hoping not to have to waste all that time, which
is why I originally posted after wasting a half hour at least on
Google .

At any rate thanks for your time, but I'm hoping for something
definite for my records.

I would say the evidence points to Karen Brooks. In a review of DAC's
album, "Invictus Means Unconquered/Tennessee Whiskey" (which contains
the song in question) it states that there are two duets with Karen
Brooks. It doesn't name "We Got a Bad Thing Goin'" as one of them, but
it doesn't mention any other duets with a female singer.

Think again. :)

First of all, you have to understand that "Invictus Means Unconquered"
and "Tennessee Whiskey " are two separate LPs, that were re-released
as a two-fer. Secondly, you have to understand that "Invictus Means
Unconquered" contains "TWO" duets with Karen Brooks, which is equals
what the review mentions. :)

I read the review, and as I said the evidence hints that it's Rita
Remington, but is inconclusive. I can't eliminate the possibility that
it is Karen Brooks until I either listen to it or get confirmation
from someone or something. Tennessee Whiskey doesn't list anyone as
singing a duet, but Johnny Lee sings a duet on "D-R-U-N-K" and some
woman sings a duet on "Bad Thing Going". Again, both Rita Remington
and Karen Broooks BOTH are listed as singing on the LP, but NOBODY is
listed as singing on the duets(s).

Thanks again for your attempt at helping out.

Yes it does, BUT ... we've already discussed this . :)

Secondly the very same review says it's John Hartford on "D-R-U-N-K"
and again without digging it out and listening to it, I believe John
Hartford does indeed play banjo and/or fiddle, and in fact on one of
the songs I remember DAC specifically calls his name, ... HOWEVER that
doesn't change the FACT that to these old ears it sounds like Johnny
Lee on the duet, which your reviewer curiously omits completely.
Secondly, IN FACT, Johnny Lee is listed on the back of the LP, AS IS
RITA REMINGTON. :)

Anyhow, just like this NG , especially when a certain HOMO sapien
windbag used to post :) there are thousands of misstatements and piles
of misinformation floating around these country music sites. Again,
just because it's in print on someone's web site, doesn't mean there's
an ounce of truth to it.

In fairness to the site you directed me to, I believe they admit that
they're reviews are taken from the "All Music Guide" or some such
nonsense, and if you've ever had the pleasure to read a lot of these
mainly other than Country Music books, if you're honest you know that
they get most of their information from Busgal and her nephew. :)

Anyhow, again thanks for your input .
