Hi
I was listening to an old Bob Nolan LP, he of course was one of the
founding members of the "Sons Of The Pioneers", and was famous for
writing and recording such Country Music standards as "Cool
Water","Tumbling Tumbleweeds" and hundreds of others. I believe it's
his only solo LP, released in 1979, when he was in his 70's, and
despite looking fit and healthy on the cover, sadly I believe he
passed away the following year.
Anyhow, I was listening to it as background music while gift wrapping,
when my head snapped up like the proverbial family dog, when it hears
something not quite right.
The very last song on side one, was the old "Man Walks Among Us" that
Marty Robbins had written and performed on at least one of those old
gunfighter ballads and trail songs LPs, Robbins became so famous for.
Seemed perfectly logical, that one of the "Sons Of The Pioneers" would
pay respect to Marty, after he had covered so many of their songs
during that period. Again, not paying too much attention, just
listening as background noise when WHOA!!!!!!!!! WAIT A MINUTE!!!!!
Who's that joining in and harmonizing on the chorus?????? I couldn't
believe it, but that distinctive voice was unmistakable...none other
than Marty Robbins.
It happened quite a bit in the old days, where someone would be
waiting to use the studio next, or just happened to be in the
building, etc ... and they'd pop in and do a cameo, but I'd never
heard about this and don't know all the details, so I was pretty
surprised.
Anyhow, I don't know what's available on-line for download, etc ...
but if you know a site where you can listen before purchasing check it
out. "Man Walks Among Us" - Bob Nolam (w/Marty Robbins)
Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from your "King"!
