If there are any Tom T. Hall fans out there, I just recently
bought a new CD called "Tom T. Hall Sings Miss Dixie & Tom T." Even
though he had retired from the road, he told his wife (Miss Dixie)
that as a Christmas present for her, he would do a CD of songs that
they both had written and this was the result. (No, I'm not a
publicist or connected in any way with them - just a long time fan.)
While there are many good tunes on it, there is one song that really
struck me - "A Hero From Harlan". It's about a soldier who has been
killed in the war returning home. It's not really an anti-war song -
it just tells it like it is and as a veteran who has attended quite a
few military funerals, it really strikes a chord. While their web
site lets you listen to snippets of some of the songs, the limited
number of verses does not begin to do justice to the feeling expressed
by the whole song. I haven't seen publicity on this CD, so thought
maybe some of you might be interested. Their web site is"
