My first post in the group. I'm a fan of all types of music but
particularly Country (real Country not the new s**t) and Blues.
A long time ago I heard a song and I've never been able to find
the name. One of the lines I remember went like this:

It's that time of the morning and the sun is coming up
I'm standing on the corner with my guitar and my cup
Just waiting for somebody to come along and fill it up
and that's the way I spend my morning.

The song goes on about going into a bar for his first drink of
day and then going back out to play on the street to get some more money

Anyone out there have any idea who sang this song and what the title
might be? I think it came out originally in the early 70's but I'm not
sure.

Let me pop in here and try to help you if I may. You are very close to
the song title. The song is called"Sun Comin' Up" It was written and
sung by Nat Stuckey. A single of the song came out on a 45 from an LP
album called Independence in 1976. MCA Records MCA 2184.
Both the single and LP are out of print, however I checked on E Bay
and there is someone offering the 45 for sale.
I always enjoyed Nat's music. Especialy his novelty type songs such
as ,"Sweet Thang",Plastic Saddles,Don't Pay the Ransom and like that.
Of course you all should know Nat wrote and also sang The big hit
song for Jim Ed Brown and later covered by Allan Jackson, "Pop A Top"

Norm,
I can't believe after all these years I've actually found someone that
recognized the lyrics. I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.
I'll check Ebay and do some searches on Nat Stuckey. We have a local
radio station that seems to have access to a lot of hard to find cuts.
I'll give them a call and see if they can dig up a copy. If you like the
blues you might try them at www.wglt.com it's a local NPR station and
they stream the blues 24/7 from their site.

Thanks again,

Norm,
Don't know if you still frequent this group but I thought I'd let you
know that I found a copy on eBay and ordered it tonight. Don't know what
made me look for it tonight, Maybe it was the scotch LOL.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

And to the rest of you yeah I know the original post was from back in
Dec. 06. I just hope Norm's out there somewhere and gets his Thank You.
