I was just listening to Earl Thomas Conley and checking his chart
success, and amazingly even though this guy could barely get arrested
if he lit himself on fire on the White House steps, :) he ran off
almost twenty consecutive #1 hits, between something like 1982 and
1990 ! No wonder Garth Brooks was able to take over Country music
right after that !

How the hell was that possible ? Is there even a single living person
who can name even one of Earl's #1's, let alone all 20 " :)

Now the obvious question is who was the President of RCA from 1982 -
1989, and did he leave the company around 1989 ? Was his wife the
President of the Billboard charts ? :) His son ? Daughter ?

I know some people talk about Joe Galante a lot around here, was he
ever at RCA in those years?

This has got to be one of the biggest Payola scandals in Country music
history. I mean I just finished listening to almost all of Earl Thomas
Conley's "hits", and a few of them aren't bad, but I gotta tell you I
certainly didn't hear many/any #1's !!!!!!!!

I just did a Google search and apparently one of the biggest mafia
bosses of all time was also named Joe Galante . :)

Just one of those things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm . :)

Do you play for a living or just write to hear yourself?

Do you play for a living <
Of course not. I don't do this for money, I do it strictly for
love. :)
or just write to hear yourself?<
Honestly, with all the voices going on in my head, I gotta admit
Bunky, sometimes it's almost impossible to hear myself think, let
alone hear myself write. :)

Having said that, I honestly think that most of my writings or
proclamations as we say in the Kingdom, :) should be put into book
form and perhaps as a public service, translated into millions of
different languages .

I mean if they include a bible on everyone's nightstand , why not my
book of classic country reviews, ruminations, observations,
dissertations, and other useless informations :) next to everyone's
radio or stereo system in every hotel room throughout the
Universe ! ?

Enlightenment at your fingertips, 24 / 7 !

Kinda like this NG, huh ? :)
LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was your question, again ?

Conley has tried a few comebacks with no luck. Pretty much pushed out
by the wave of hot country. One comeback was with RCA in late 80s but
Galante dropped him like a rock after poor sales. If I remember
right, he had some vocal problems due to bad health as well.

I'm not surprised. It's amazing to me in hindsight, that he could have
possibly had close to 20 #1's in a row, and nobody knows him or his
songs. I'd almost guarantee that even his sales weren't that hot. It's
just that the evidence points to a connection somewhere to the charts,
ala payola. Is he related to Ralph Emery ? :)

Again, I always thought he had a pretty nice voice, but it still comes
down to the song and his just don't add up to the kind of numbers he
racked up. Earl Thomas Conley and Sonny James are the payola kings of
Country music, but at least Sonny James recorded a lot of covers of
older hit songs. The Beatles could get back together and cut some of
Earl's songs, and they still wouldn't be #1 HITS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P-A-Y-O-L-A ! End of story. I'm betting someone had a serious coke
problem somewhere.

I liked him better when he recorded as The ETC Band. I believe he was
on Warner Bros. at the time.

Thats' fine, but it's not either or, it's HTF did this guy get
something like 20 consecutive #1 HITS ?????????? In the same vein as
HTF did Cornhole Twitty get 50 something #1 HITS ???????

Obviously in BOTH cases it's because money talks, but it just
illustrates what a service this NG provides. We can call 'em like we
see 'em, because we're not beholden to anybody. Our jobs and MORE
IMPORTANTLY our access doesn't depend on what we say ! I don't think
it's a stretch to say that this NG and especially your's truly :)
exhibited the outspokenness and it's important I think to recognize
that it was informed, knowledgable, and expert outspokeness , that
contributed to what today they call a "blog" .

If Al Gore invented the internet, :) then certainly everyone will
admit that your humble servant created the "blog' . :)

P.S. - Remember, I still don't charge for my services, but I see that
changing in the future . :)
