Darrell McCall did a -great- cover of 'Lazy Day', with Buddy Emmons
laying down a -killer- bass track on it.

Pretty hard to beat Merle Haggard & Willie Nelson's version , I think.
That was just about the end of Willie Nelson's musical legacy . :)
With a few exceptions, he's been MIA for about 25 years. :)

Probably has nothing to do with all the pot he smokes, though. :)

There'd be close to a hundred tied for 1st place! But I took E.T. along
on a recent camping trip, so right now "Seaman's Blues" keeps playing in
my head.

You're right! I actually have many tied for 1st place. I could easily
say anything by Hank Thompson.

I'll tell you an obsolete one. And I think it's a "B" side. But I
played the hell out of "Money, Marbles and Chalk" by Tex Ritter.

I've got some Tex Ritter 78s from the '40s but never heard of "Money,
Marbles and Chalk". How about a few lines of lyrics?

My most-played 78 of his was "Jealous Heart"/"We Live In Two Different
Worlds", followed by "There's A New Moon Over My Shoulder"/"I'm Wastin'
My Tears On You". Good stuff! -- Dick

OK Esker, hit me with your best shot. I opened the door for you.
I had the right voice range, I was correct about the singer having a
son who had success.
And I was right about it being a "B" side. BUT, I had the wrong name.
I looked through my 45's.
It was on the Decca label, #30364, Flower Of San Antone / Money,
Marbles & Chalk. Recorded by
Rex Allen. And the 45 I have now is a copy I bought about 10 years ago
at the Record Attic, a record graveyard.
I wanted to hear it again.

Please. If I flamed you every time you left the door open I'd have no
time for ANYTHING else. :) I mean in the previous post before you said
something like your favorite song was ANYTHING by Hank Snow ? Do you
know how ridiculous that sounds ? Was I supposed to respond to that,
too ? :)

I understand that you're a fan of his, BUT ... :)

Remember , fan is derived from the word Fanatic, and to MOST people
that's not necessarily a complimentary thing to be described as. :)

Were you under the impression that in one breath you could say
something ridiculous like that about Hank Snow, and then somebody was
going to correct you when you said something equally ridiculous the
next post ? :) I hate to point this out, BUT ... personally I don't
take your taste in music very seriously. Your milage may vary. :)

Good for you ! Ultimately that's what music is about. If you like
it, play it a MILLION times and enjoy it.

However, as historians, scholars, Noah Tall's :) Kings, :) etc, some
of us have to look at the big picture, and evaluate and decide,
catalog, etc for future generations where EVERYTHING fits , in a
professional, objective, unbiased :) and indisputable :) manner, and
try to educate the masses, so they will not waste their time listening
to "Money Marbles and Chalk" a million times, when they could be
listening to for instance "If You've Got The Money" as someone just
mentioned in a previos thread.

Timing is everything, and as luck would have it, I was just listening
to "Money Marbles And Chalk" within the past two weeks or so, this
version by Pop Eckler. Again, your milage may vary, and although I
thought Eckler did a decent enough job on the song, his version did
NOT make my " The 1,000,000 Greatest Country Songs Of All Time", for
the very simple reason that I find the lyrics pretty lame, and the
bottom line IMHO is that it's a pretty stupid song. :)

Having said that, if you enjoy the song I'm happy for you and
recommend you continue to listen to it as long as you do ! ENJOY !

P.S. - Try not to turn it up TOO loudly . Remember, most people
already think we're CRAZY for listening to this stuff !!!! Don't
confirm their suspicions ! :) LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
