Does anyone know who sang "Bright Lights Uptown" on the album titled
"The Beginning And The End" (Buckboard BBS-1029). Cowboy Copas sang the
title song but the other 11 songs are by others who aren't identified on
the LP or on the cover. I know Justin Tubb sang "Mountain Dew" because
Cope introduced him. But I'd like to know who sang "Bright Lights
Uptown" 'cause I think it's a great song. Another good one is "Memories
Of You" and I'd like to know who sang it too. Thanks for any info --

To RhedRhedRobinn, AKA Esker:
Thanks for the info re "Bright Lights Uptown". Since you're evidently
familiar with that album ("The Beginning And The End") perhaps you can
also identify who the other singers are. Track list is:
"The Beginning And The End" -- Cowboy Copas
"I'm Just Here" -- ?
"Ball And Chain Blues" -- ?
"Blues Of The Night" -- ?
"Blue Angel" -- ?
"Carolina Bound" -- ?
"Mountain Dew" -- Justin Tubb
"Bright Lights Uptown" -- Johnny Bond (?)
"Are You Living Just For Me" -- ?
"Country Boy" -- ?
"Memories Of You" -- ?
"I Want My Lou" -- ?

I can't understand why Buckboard put out an LP without identifying the
singers -- maybe you can explain that too. From the front of the cover
and the blurb on the back of the cover, written by a Cannon Kincaid (who
he?), one would assume that all the songs were by Copas. So needless to
say, I was pissed-off at finding only one Cope song, although I do like
some of the others. False advertising! And you can toss in a few insults
along with any more answers you can provide! -- Dick

Incorrect. I do have a few Buckboard/Springboard albums, but the particular one
you mention is NOT one of them.
perhaps you can also identify who the other singers are.<
Perhaps ? :) Have you forgotten who you're talking to ?
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I understand that at your age some earthlings begin to lose some memory, so
just as a friendly reminder, I am the great ESKER, the KING !
"The Beginning And The End" -- Cowboy Copas
"I'm Just Here" -- ?
"To Get My Baby Out Of Jail" :) The singer is Hank Payne
"Ball And Chain Blues" -- ?
Sonny Gordon and the North Carolina Ramblers
"Blues Of The Night" -- ?
Roger Simpson
"Blue Angel" -- ?
Ernest Butler
"Carolina Bound" -- ?
John "Salty" Williamson
"Mountain Dew" -- Justin Tubb
"Bright Lights Uptown" -- Johnny Bond (?)
Frankie Carter
"Are You Living Just For Me" -- ?
Johnny Drake
"Country Boy" -- ?
Stanley Alpine
"Memories Of You" -- ?
Johnny Williams
"I Want My Lou" -- ?
Skippy Skip-To-My And His Brothers (also known as The Wiseman Brothers :)
I can't understand why Buckboard put out an LP without identifying the singers

M-O-N-E-Y . :) Rumor has it that you were probably spinning Jimmy Hoffa's
remains, while listening to it. :)
From the front of the cover and the blurb on the back of the cover, written by

Probably a capo. :) Or a nephew in the business. :)

Welcome to America. :) Maybe if it was the ONLY time it was ever done, you'd
have some ground to satnd on, but the reality is, that this was a common
practice, among the smaller sleazier companies. Since I don't have the
particular album you're talking about, I have no way of knowing what the cover
looks like, but in quite a few instances they would actually put people like
Flatt & Scruggs, Jimmy Dean, and others on the cover, only to include one or
two songs by the pictured artist, and the other ten were by the "Renfroe Valley
Pioneers" or some such luminaries. :)

No need to. :) LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the info, but didn't you contradict yourself on "Bright
Lights Uptown"? Your post of 4/27 provided a hint, namely "007", which I
assumed meant Johnny Bond, but your later post named Frankie Carter as
the singer. Please clarify if you will. The album cover does say, in
large letters, "Cowboy Copas", along with his picture. A couple years
ago I bought a somewhat simliar "fraudulent" Copas album, but the
on-line seller (Duffelbag) refunded all my money including postage both
ways, which I thought was mighty decent of them. That's a plug for
Duffelbag for anyone in the market for music. -- Dick

Frankie Carter is the singer on your LP. When I read your post, I knew that
Buckboard or Springboard, was out of NJ, and re-issued some George Jones
Starday cuts, among others. You asked for information about "Bright Lights
Uptown" and I knew that Johnny Bond had recorded it for Starday, and ASSUMED,
since they were in the business of reissuing Starday/King cuts, and since you
mentioned Copas and Justin Tubb, who both recorded for Starday, that you had
Johnny Bond's version of the song.

However, when you listed the other songs, which for the most part were
unfamiliar to me as Starday cuts, I had to actually go and look into my
collection.

The one that rang a bell, as to where I should look, was "Blue Angel", because
I remembered that when Aaron Tippin released a similar titled song,a few years
back, I remembered wanting to see if this was the original, that Tippin was now
covering. It wasn't. I think Tippin's song was just "You're My Angel" or
something like that.

At any rate, I remembered the song, as being on one of the 3 compilation albums
released on the Palace label, that I have, because as I'm sure you can attest,
the sound is so unprofessional, it sticks out like a sore thumb. It sounds like
they were recorded in an outhouse somewhere in North Carolina ! Sure enough,
all 12 of your songs were included, among the 3 different LPs.
That's a plug for Duffelbag for anyone in the market for music. <
Just my luck. I'm in the market for a dufflebag ! :(

Thanks for the clarification. I'll update the track list on the album. I
looked for Frankie Carter on the AMG website, but they only list a Frank
Carter who is classified as a gospel singer, and of a later era. So I
guess Frankie Carter never made the big-time -- too bad, but I still
like his version of the song. -- Dick

Jy husband wrote this in '58 or '59. He cut the record in '60 at the
Starday Recording Studio and he cut 4 records that day that came out on
the Nashville label. He is on the Cowboy Copas records, one albun Jim was
put on as Frankie Carter and on one he was listed as Jim Durdel. We found
out that he was on the albun as some people from Mich. came thru and told
us that he was Frankie Carter and gave us the albun that we took to a
lawyer thatwas sent to jail for stealing from his clients. The albun was
in his care so we lost it. For about 47 years we have looked for the
albun never thinking to try on the net. Jim Durdel wrote, sang and paid
for the band to make the record, BRIGHT LIGHTS UPTOWN....
