The Other Side
I wonder, oh I wonder If an eagle looks with longing
On the oak tree in the ground
And I wonder, oh I wonder
If the oak tree dreams of flying
Of how the wind must sound
I wonder, oh I wonder
If the desert hears the thunder
And wants to be the rain
Or if each raindrop from the sky
Touches sand and gives a sigh
And longs to stay forever
But must rise to fall again
Some people don't know fortune when they've found it
They always want the things that they don't have
The man with roots will dream of growing wings to fly away
Now me, I'd like to try the other side and stay
I wonder, oh I wonder
If a pebble sees a diamond
And wishes it could shine
Or does a diamond dream of stones
Left to hear the river run
Never cut, sold or polished
Part of nature for all time
I would trade my freedom for the warmth behind your door
Trade the dreams I dream for one to hold
I guess that I've been far enough to know what life is for
I hope I catch a ride before it snows
Some people don't know fortune when they've found it
They always want the things that they don't have
The man with roots will dream of growing wings to fly away
Now me, I'd like to try the other side and stay
Yes me, I'd like to try the other side and stay
